schools and colleges
The Naze Tower has been welcoming visits from schools and colleges since opening in 2004 so we have lots of experience of working with students of all ages. Our emphasis for your visit is on an educational, enjoyable and affordable experience and that is why we have schools who return each year. We offer a service that can be adapted to your school’s requirements and your study focus. The visit can be orientated towards studying Geography, History and/or Art and can include a talk that relates to any of these subjects.
Secondary Schools
Most frequently visit the Naze to study Geography, specifically coastal erosion and management. Teachers find a visit to the Tower enhances their field studies: from the roof viewing platform you can compare the protected and unprotected coastline and gain an expansive view of the coastal area and a birds eye view of the two SSSIs – Hamford Waters and the Naze Cliffs. The Museum provides further information about the coastal erosion, the fossils and the area.
The Geography talk covers the Tower, the Naze, coastal erosion and management. Up to date information about Crag Walk, the Naze Protection Society and the future of the Naze. Q & A session is also offered.
Primary Schools
Primary school visits usually encompass all three subjects studying Geography, History and/or Art. For primary schools the geography areas are all covered but in less detail. More emphasis is on the Geology and Fossils, History and Art, the latter explored as a tour of the gallery.
The Tower provides a base and focus for the visit. Lunch, refreshments and souvenirs are available from the tea rooms and shop in the Tower.
